The NZ Transport Agency and Well-Connected Alliance presents

Waterview Connection Opening Events

Hendon Park (Kūkūwai Park)

Visit the Waterview Tunnel before it opens to traffic.

The Waterview Connection public opening events will be held on 18th, 23rd, 25th, 26th and 27th June, providing a unique opportunity to cycle the full length or walk a section of NZ's longest road tunnel before it opens to traffic.

What is the Waterview Connection Project?

The $1.4bn Waterview Connection is New Zealand's largest ever roading project. It includes twin 2.4km long 3-lane tunnels – the longest road tunnels in the country – and a motorway-to-motorway interchange at Great North Road to connect the Northwestern and Southwestern Motorways.

The Waterview Connection completes the Western Ring Route, a new 48km route to the west of Auckland, connecting Manukau, the city, Waitakere and the North Shore and provides people and freight with a second route around and through the city, in addition to State Highway 1.

As well as supporting growth and ensuring greater reliability and resilience, the Waterview Connection has provided a number of community facilities – including parks, playgrounds, sports and recreational facilities and shared paths.

The NZ Transport Agency and Well-Connected Alliance look forward to welcoming you to celebrate the completion of the Waterview Connection Project.
